Annual Meeting The Branch Pond Association's Annual Meeting will be held on Saturday, August 7, 1993 at 9:30 AM at Ellsworth City Hall. Coffee and Doughnuts will be served for early arrivals. Roads Roads continue to be the major focus of the BPA. This spring they have been terrible. The city grader has begun the early season scraping of the roads around the lake, but in many cases there is a need for additional gravel for any more than a short term fix. Rains quickly restore the holes after grading and we are soon back to square 1. President Chuck Rohn has written to the city council in an effort to set up a meeting, but thus far no meeting has been scheduled. The many variations of road ownership appear to rule out any single settlement around the lake, but the BPA has at least assured the continuation of the minimal services that we receive. 1993 Branch Pond Sailboat Racing Program The first race of the season is scheduled for July 4th at 2:00 p.m. and each Sunday thereafter, with the last race on August 15th. This year one long distance race is planned, followed by a picnic. After the race on July 4th, sailors and their friends are invited to Paul Wight's cottage for refreshments. The sailboat racing activity is sponsored by the Branch Pond Association and everyone is invited to participate. While the racing activity is sponsored by the BPA, the group has been financially self-supporting for most of its existence. The racing buoys were purchased by the BPA, but all other expenses have been covered by the annual $10 contributions of the participants. Spring was long in coming this year in most of the NORTHEAST. When the ice finally did go out of Branch Pond the loons landed within an hour. They must have been in a holding pattern waiting for the water to open up. A Blue Heron was sighted on the eastern shore in May. On the eastern shore there has been extensive logging in the land formerly owned by Stephen LaFreniere. Some cutting was done on 28-acre island but it is not easily seen from the water. New Year's Day came and went, but Memorial Day found intrepid BPA Vice President Cal Anderson ready for his annual dip. He didn't stay in for a swim this year. Thanks to all 126 of you who renewed your membership in the BPA and welcome to our 9 new members. Jan Fuller reports a grand total of 135 members. Our problems and our interests can best be served by a strong membership. |
